That is a given! But I don't think there is a much cheaper solution if you already have them. :D:D

Re: Why NOT to invest in back-up power

SO for roughly $1000 I can get 2000/4000 watts of backup off the two Volts to run the critical loads. Worth it financially? I doubt it, but that is a roll of the dice. One could easily lose a few...

  6. Re: New Project Will Forecast Solar Generation

I would think that most of what goes on at Livermore is in that class. Certainly better things to do with the cash.

  8. Re: The game's a-changing in California (insanity reigns)

Back in the housing boom there were tons of house with California plates in the driveway here. They could sell there and buy a house for cash here from the proceeds.
  9. Re: New Outback Equipment Cooling Fans Screaming Loud - Is This Normal?

Yeah right! tell that to my wife and 2 teen age grand kids. What is the worst is when they get 2 or 3 of them going at once and trip the breakers.
  10. Re: SolarCity Sues Treasury Over 1603 Payments

This is a similar problem I had with Salt River Solar and there lease program. They had a ton of cash out on installs and the Fed investigated and negated a bunch of claims against 1603. Result my...

    Re: Inverter recommendations

This is why I am buying Samlex, high voltage cut off is 16.5 on the 12V 1000watt model
    Exceltech as well
    XP-1100/12Vdc low=10.4/10.6Vdc* median=13.8Vdc high=16.5Vdc
    * is buzzer alert level.
  13. Re: Help! Mysterious load completely draining batteries

Certainly sounds like time for a DC clamp on AMP meter to see what the load is like. If they are topped up at day end by SG readings (or maybe by resting voltage with no loads if you are without a...

Sticky: Re: Sanyo mini split AC (inverter/variable speed)

Well I do know that even the big 3 ton Tranes run long on the hottest days when temps are near or above 115F, so I think the sizing is pretty right on. Those are the days when the consumption of...

Re: Bulding new Off Grid Home in Panama

I don't see anything in that construction that would interest the termites so far.

Metal Roof, I bet that gives some of its own strength to the roofing.

    SAMLEX PST-1000-12 experiences

I am going to add a PSW inverter to use a a backup source off both my Chevy Volts 12V systems. This one seems to fit the bill as it has a High Voltage cut off at 16.5 volts and the Volts DC to DC...

Re: Why NOT to invest in back-up power

Yeah an unreliable grid is tough to deal with, I can't remember the last time we had an outage. I would have to get the instruction books out to reset all the digital clocks.

    Re: System Design

Well for off grid you have to figure charging losses as well. and you want to keep it to about 20-25% discharge per day for a couple day in pretty strictly battery mode. I think the consensus is...
